1990年米国ネブラスカ州オマハでニック・ヘクサム（vo）を中心に結成された5人組ロック・バンド。結成後ロサンゼルスを拠点に活動をはじめ、93年にアルバム『ミュージック』でメジャー・デビュー。ヒップホップやレゲエの影響を色濃く受けたミクスチャー・ロック・サウンドを展開する。95年に3rdアルバム『311』、シングル「ダウン」が大ヒットを記録し、人気バンドになる。その後もヒット作を連発し、米ロック・シーンに確固たる地位を確立した。
