Eric Dolphy
1928年6月20日、米国ロサンゼルス生まれ。アルト・サックス、フルート、バス・クラリネットを演奏するマルチ・リード奏者。伝統的なジャズを土台にフリー・ジャズにも接近した60年代を代表する改革派。1960年初リーダー作『アウトワード・バウンド』録音。1961年には史上名高いブッカー・リトルとの双頭クインテットを結成。1961～62年にはジョン・コルトレーンのバンドでも演奏した。1964年6月29日、心臓発作のためドイツ・ベルリンで客死。36歳だった。
